9 Fun Photography Projects to do with your Children - Pt. 1

Want some ideas for fun parent child / tween / teen activities to try together while learning photography, mastering new skills, and creating the opportunity for conversation?

1 - The Scavenger Hunt

There are many ideas you could list on a piece of paper or create for an online tick list. The key here is to see things differently! Make the ideas or clues just outside the box of the everyday e.g.

  • Photograph the garden from the perspective of a worm

  • The more I dry the wetter I get - what am I?

  • Toys having a party

  • A kitchen implement beginning with the letter W (whisk….) or F (fork….) etc…

  • Photograph the letters that spell your name

2. Remove the colour/Color

Life always looks a certain way to us - we spot items that have contrast e.g. the red ladybug on the white windowsill, or the yellow pollen in the pink flower - but do they all stand out in black and white?

Sometimes contrast comes from depth of shade - how dark or light something is - and this works

Sometimes contrast comes from colour - pink vs yellow - and in shades of grey they sometimes look VERY similary.

Explore taking photographs and adding a black and white filter - then discuss what works and what doesnt.

  • Which look better in black and white?

  • Which look better in colour?

  • Why do you think this is?
